Freedom Songs
The performance is an entertaining musical review of black history. From the work songs of slavery (“Hoe Emma Hoe”) and the hymns of the Underground Railroad (“Follow the Drinking Gourd”) to the blues of Beale Street and the anthems of the Civil Rights Movement, music has always been an integral part of the nation’s past. This production tells the stories behind these famous and forgotten hymns, work songs and musical styles while sampling songs that spread across continents, genres and centuries. Time: 7:00 p.m. Admission: Free
